PEUGEOT FINDS TECHNOLOGY AND CONNECTIVITY ARE VALUED MOST BY THE YOUNGER GENERATION

Research by PEUGEOT UK has unveiled striking generational differences in what drivers most value in a car. Research by PEUGEOT UK has unveiled striking generational differences in what drivers most value in a car. The survey, which included 2,000 respondents across five generations*, highlights a clear trend, technology-driven features such as in-car connectivity, autonomous capabilities, and eco-friendly design are now top priorities for Gen-Z and Millennials.

Connectivity features were more highly valued by younger generations with 38% and 42% of Gen-Z and Millennials valuing connectivity features compared to 10% and 3% of Boomers and the Silent Generation. However, 18% of the Silent Generation said they prefer to use voice commands to control in-car features, second only to Gen-Z.

The research also found that Gen-Z place greater emphasis on technology, with 31% citing it as a top consideration when buying a new vehicle, compared to just 10% of Boomers. Design was also a top consideration for 27% of Gen-Z, versus 12% of Boomers. Alongside technology and design, 25% of Gen-Z said that environmental impact and sustainability credentials were features they valued most in a car - more than any other generation.

Technology was important to all generations in some way, with navigation systems being the one feature people of all ages could not live without in their vehicle, with 45% of the Boomer generation saying that they would not want to drive without satellite navigation. PEUGEOT’s i-Connect® Advanced infotainment system includes TomTom® connected navigation, which provides an EV Routing function to plan the most efficient journey, maximise the car’s range and facilitate charging.

Smart AI assistance was identified by 24% of drivers as a feature they would like to see in future cars, rising to 46% among Gen-Z and 37% among Millennials. ChatGPT is already offered on all of PEUGEOT’s latest generation models and is fully integrated into the natural voice recognition of the i-Cockpit®, transforming drivers’ journeys by allowing interaction with the infotainment system without touch, ensuring drivers can keep their eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel.

When asked about the autonomous driving capabilities of future vehicles, 62% of Gen-Z agreed that cars should have fully autonomous driving capabilities compared to just 24% of Boomers. The new PEUGEOT E-3008 and E-5008 are available with Level 2 driver assist features including Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Positioning Assist, Semi-Automatic Lane Change and Recommended Speed Adaptation.

Interestingly, 74% of the Silent Generation said that sustainability was important in their choice when buying a new car, higher than both Boomers and Generation X. With 75% of Gen-Z thinking it is important that their next car is electric or hybrid, the youngest and eldest generations both value sustainability in their choices of future cars. PEUGEOT is a leader in electrification, offering the most extensive electric vehicle line-up of any mainstream European brand with an all-electric version of every model.

Across generations, longer battery range was highlighted as a feature that they would like to see in future cars. PEUGEOT offers the best electric ranges in the SUV market with the E-3008 and E-5008 Long Range versions having electric ranges of 435 miles and 415 miles respectively (WLTP combined cycle).

Nicola Dobson, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, said: “With technology becoming increasingly important to younger drivers, PEUGEOT is proud to be a tech-forward brand. We already offer the widest EV line-up of any mainstream European brand, and our models are available with a suite of innovative features such as the Panoramic i-Cockpit®, ChatGPT® integration and class-leading electric range. We are committed to developing vehicles that meet modern drivers’ expectations and reinforce our position as leaders in both technology and electrification.”

PEUGEOT’s all-electric E-3008 and E-5008, recently launched in the UK, exemplify the brand’s innovative spirit, offering features that cater to tech-oriented motorists. The innovative Panoramic i-Cockpit® provides a high-tech experience with a 21-inch curved panoramic display integrating both the head-up display and central touchscreen into a single user-friendly system. The latest models from PEUGEOT also come with PEUGEOT’s i-Connect® Advanced infotainment system, supporting wireless MirrorScreen technology for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto, as well as over-the-air map updates.
