Peugeot produces its 300,000th 208

In January 2012, Peugeot started building its new city car at PSA Peugeot Citroën’s Poissy plant, adopted as the pilot site for this new production.
At the sales launch of the Peugeot 208 in March 2012, Peugeot clearly declared its objective of winning back European leadership of the B segment, the most contested in Europe. And the 208 is in line with Peugeot’s sales objectives, with 221, 000 units sold in 2012, and 1st place in the B segment in Europe in December, so ahead of the VW Polo and the Ford Fiesta. This success has been confirmed in several countries: the Peugeot 208 was in 1st place in the city car segment in France in December 2012 and in January 2013. At the end of December 2012, 208 was also 1st in Spain and in Portugal and 2nd in Holland.
Second objective for Peugeot with the 208, provide evidence of the move upmarket. In 2012, 39% of sales of the Peugeot 208 were for the higher trim levels. The distinctive GTI and XY versions, to be launched soon, will contribute towards this and will crown a then full model range.
The 208 has already been distinguished by numerous awards in Europe – United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Ireland - and is a finalist for the European title of “Car of the Year 2013”.
On the occasion of the production of the 300, 000th Peugeot 208, Gaëlle Monteiller, Director of the Poissy site, and Marc Giulioli, Marketing Director at Peugeot France, met with a new 208 customer, from Toulouse, for a symbolic handover of the keys that took place at the Poissy site on 22 February.
