Rüsselsheim. Many cars, especially light commercial vehicles (LCV), develop their fullest potential when they are converted and adapted to their specific purpose with the equipment operators really need. Opel is now offering a new programme of high quality conversions for the Combo Life passenger car and Combo Cargo light commercial vehicle (LCV) that will inject this market segment with additional momentum. The factory-approved range, which will be continually extended by additional state-of-the-art conversions, is available now from Opel dealers throughout Europe.

Demand for conversions is expected to rise fast, whether for wheelchair accessible vehicles in the area of passenger transportation, or for temperature controlled cargo carriers. By partnering with respected conversion specialists such as AMF-Bruns, Car Fibreglass, Focaccia, Gruau, Kerstner, Lamberet, Morice Constructeur and Tripod Mobility, Opel and the Combo are poised for a significant share of this growth. Professional aftersales coverage from the extensive Opel dealer network is an additional advantage for customers.

Opel offers a wide range of wheelchair accessible vehicle conversions for the Combo Life – AUTOBEST Best Buy Car 2019 – that enable an active and independent lifestyle.

Customers can choose from conversions of both standard and XL size Combo variants with accommodation for up to five seats plus one wheelchair. Safety for the wheelchair passenger is provided by three-point seatbelts including restraint systems with electric and mechanical retractors.

A ramp provides access to the rear of the vehicle. Depending on the model variant, the Combo offers a compartment for the wheelchair measuring up to 1.50 metres long, up to 1.45m high and up to 85cm wide.

For even higher comfort, the Combo as wheelchair accessible vehicle is additionally available with pneumatic suspension that lowers the body, and a ramp that locks electrically, instead of manually, to the rear bumper.

In addition to wheelchair accessible vehicles, Europe is also one of the most important markets for temperature controlled vehicles. Busy lifestyles and diversifying eating habits are among the reasons for the demand. Another driver comes from the pharmaceutical business, where products must be protected from heat and sunlight.

Cool for carrying food and pharmaceuticals: Combo Cargo Van Of The Year

The Combo Cargo, voted International Van Of The Year 2019 (IVOTY), features all the prerequisites for conversion to an ideal temperature controlled or refrigerated vehicle that can cover the “last mile” until delivery. Opel offers the conversion on standard and XL model variants, with two or three seats and double rear doors, with or without a single sliding side door, and a cargo capacity of 1.6 or 2.0 cubic metres.

The Combo’s easy-to-clean isotherm cell (made of glass reinforced polyester sandwich panels with isothermal panel backing providing insulation on the doors) is 1,450 millimetres high and 1,255mm wide, (1,066mm between the wheel-arches). Depending on the model variant, the non-slip floor of the cell (featuring LED interior lighting) is 1.48 or 1.83m long.

Additionally available are numerous options for precisely adapting the Combo to its role as temperature controlled vehicle. These include a refrigerating unit, an intermediate removable floor and adjustable shelves, as well as a strip curtain for the doors, a lashing rail and interior unlocking of the sliding door.

Despite this high level of versatility, the Combo Cargo as temperature controlled or refrigerated vehicle retains full access to the spare wheel and the option to install a towing hitch.

The practical and comfortable Opel Combo, which is based on the market-leading EMP2 platform from Groupe PSA, is offered for conversion in standard (4.40 metres) or XL lengths (4.75m).

The WLTP-certified powertrain portfolio, with lively petrol and diesel units that meet the stringent Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard, delivers the matching driving performance. The engines are combined with efficient five and six-speed manual transmissions. In a segment first, an especially low-friction eight-speed automatic is also available.

Both the passenger car and LCV versions of the Combo feature assistance systems and innovative technologies that are unrivalled in their respective market segments. Selected model variants are available with a mechanical limited-slip differential, higher ground-clearance and underbody protection, and no LCV-offer would be complete without racking systems. The modular systems for the left and right-hand side of the Combo Cargo feature practical drawers and boxes, which ensure that tools and material are always within easy reach. Integrated cargo securing systems that enable a quick and easy fastening of the load, and protect the cargo compartment from damage, are included. Additional safety, functionality and style is provided by the wide range of tailor-made Opel accessories.
