Confused when the rally route seemed to differ from the instructions of the roadbook, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia mainly lost a lot of time when they broke the power steering on their C3 WRC. However, they then showed great persistence and skill to fight their way back to within striking distance of the podium places, just 2.8s adrift in fourth place.

Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia produced a consistent performance on the opening leg’s wet, muddy stages, using all their race craft to end day one in second position in their C3 WRC, just 11.9s off the lead. Meanwhile, Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm escaped unhurt from an off, which nonetheless prevented them from showing all of their potential.

The WRC heads to Argentina for round five, only the second on gravel after Mexico, where the Citroën Total World Rally Team crews Sébastien Ogier – Julien Ingrassia and Esapekka Lappi – Janne Ferm will once again enjoy the huge, passionate crowds typically found in Latin America. Both crews will be determined to show the same speed they had a month and a half ago on the roads around León and maintain their run of podium finishes.
