After a strong start and looking once again like it would make a serious challenge for overall victory – winning three of Friday's six proper stages – Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT paid a heavy price for three punctures. They ruined its hopes of a podium on the first full day of racing, leaving its crews to act as road-sweepers for the rest of the weekend.

Once again hampered by their role as road-sweepers for the rest of the field, Mads Østberg – Torstein Eriksen and Craig Breen – Scott Martin used today's final leg to work on their C3 WRC's set-up options in low-grip conditions, whilst nonetheless securing the sixth and seventh place points for Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT.

Although the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT crews were all hampered by their positions in the running order today, Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle unfortunately going off in a heavy crash, Mads Østberg – Torstein Eriksen and Craig Breen – Scott Martin diligently stuck to the task in hand and ended the day in sixth and seventh positions respectively, adding to their experience on the way.

One of the dominant forces on today's opening leg with three stage wins, the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT crews Kris Meeke – Paul Nagle and Craig Breen – Scott Martin saw their hopes of a strong result seriously compromised by punctures, whilst Mads Østberg – Torstein Eriksen ended the day in an encouraging sixth place on their debut on gravel in the C3 WRC.

Kris Meeke – Paul Nagle, Mads Østberg – Torstein Eriksen and Craig Breen – Scott Martin finished fourth, eleventh and thirteenth respectively at today's shakedown, using the final practice session to tun through various set-up options on their C3 WRCs.

The season's opening gravel round in Europe, Rally de Portugal sees Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT enter three C3 WRCs for Kris Meeke – Paul Nagle, Craig Breen – Scott Martin and Mads Østberg – Torstein Eriksen respectively. This three-pronged attack should increase the team's chances of securing a strong result, with each driver pairing possessing a broad range of skills and qualities.
