A new name, a new look and a new logo: in 2021, the C3 Rally 2 is getting a serious facelift! Citroën Racing’s philosophy remains steadfast, however: offer its customers an increasingly competitive car whilst constantly lowering running costs, which is why no fewer than seven technical upgrades will be introduced at the start of next year.

Mads Østberg and Torstein Eriksen wrapped up their fourth category win of the year at ACI Rally Monza to become WRC2 world champions in the C3 R5, whilst Marco Bulacia and Marcelo Der Ohannesian finished as runners-up in the WRC3 world championship.

Alexey Lukyanuk and Alexey Arnautov, the Russian #C3R5Family crew secured a first European Rally Championship title for the C3 R5 at the final round of the season in the Canaries. Yoann Bonato and Benjamin Boulloud also claimed a fine second place in the C3 R5, whilst Pepe Lopez and Borja Rozada wrapped up their second consecutive titles as Spanish rally champions and super champions in a Citroën.

Andrea Crugnola and Pietro Ometto and Citroën C3 R5 climb to the top step of the podium of the 11th Tuscan Rewind and are crowned the 2020 Italian Rally Champions.

The C3 R5 once again showed clear speed as it collected a number of WRC2 and WRC3 stage wins at Rally Sardegna and enabled Marco Bulacia to claim third place in the WRC3.

Showing impeccable reliability and competitiveness once again, the C3 R5 took the honours in the WRC2 class this weekend at Rally Estonia, its third win this season driven by Mads Østberg, whilst also claiming its second victory in as many rounds of the French championship with Yoann Bonato.

Consistently among the leaders since the start of the season, the C3 R5 is set to return to international and French racing at Rally Estonia (WRC) and Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine (3-5 September), where it will have five and nine entries respectively.

After taking a clean sweep of the top five places in the RC2 category at last month’s Rallye Monte-Carlo, the C3 R5 again demonstrated its competitiveness as Mads Østberg and Torstein Eriksen claimed victory in the WRC2 class in Sweden. With this second successive win, secured on stages that were made incredibly demanding due to the lack of snow cover, the Norwegians moved clear at the top of the championship.

This year's particularly punishing Rallye Monte-Carlo saw Citroën crews showcase the C3R5's competitive potential by monopolising the top five places in the RC2 class. Two of them even concluded the event inside the top 10 overall, a result that couldn't have got Citroën Racing's reinforced 2020 Customer Competition programme off to a more resounding start. Frenchmen Eric Camilli / François-Xavier Buresi (Saintéloc Racing) overcame the rally's traditional mix of challenges to top the RC2 and WRC3 orders from start to finish, completing the distance 39.6 seconds clear of Norway’s Mads Østberg / Torstein Eriksen (PH Sport) who secured an assertive win in the WRC2 category.

Citroën Racing is to continue competing in the FIA World Rally Championship in association with its leading C3 R5 customers, beginning with this month’s Rallye Monte-Carlo and concluding in November in Japan after taking in many of the WRC’s classic fixtures. This stepped up programme with the C3 R5 will see development of the car – which has been ongoing since 2018 – continue in order to provide customers with an increasingly competitive car. PH Sport’s Mads Østberg and Yohan Rossel will benefit from official backing from Citroën Racing and its partners Total and Michelin on respectively eight and six rounds of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship, with the French youngster enjoying additional support from the FFSA (Fédération Française de Sport Automobile). Nicolas Ciamin and Eric Camilli will also have assistance for the Rallye Monte-Carlo. Including private entries, a total of six C3 R5s are poised to start the 88th running of the WRC’s winter classic.
