After the summer break, the Italian series reserved for Abarth-powered Tatuus single-seaters is starting up again, in Austria.

  • After the summer break, the Italian series reserved for Abarth-powered Tatuus single-seaters is starting up again, in Austria.
  • Fornaroli, Montoya and Tramnitz – the latter making his return – are in pursuit of Bearman, the leader. Among the rookies, Bedrin is in the lead, but Laursen, Bizzotto, Patrese and Maya Weug are not far behind.
  • Debut in the series of Andrea Kimi Antonelli, a karting star and one of the most promising youngsters on the international scene.

 

The Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth Certified by FIA is restarting, from the Red Bull Ring. Promoted by ACI Sport, the Italian series is returning from the summer break with as many as 32 Tatuus single-seaters on the starting grid, all powered by the 160-hp Abarth T-Jet, strictly derived from the engine used in the road-going 595 and 695. On the Austrian circuit, located in the mountains of Styria, the man to beat remains Oliver Bearman, firmly in command of the standings after the first 4 rounds of the season. However, the Briton driving for Van Amersfoort Racing will have his direct opponents to contend with, including Leonardo Fornaroli (ITA – Iron Lynx), Sebastian Montoya (COL – Prema Powerteam) and the German Tim Tramnitz, on his return to the Spielberg circuit to defend the colors of US Racing. As well as the German driver, the latter team will be lining up Pedro Perino, a Portuguese youngster who competed in the first part of the season with DR Formula.

 

It is a close battle between the rookies in the series. Nikita Bedrin (RUS – Van Amersfoort Racing) sprang into the lead after the Imola round and will have to contend with the Dane driving for Prema Powerteam, Conrad Laursen, and with the Italians Leonardo Bizzotto (BVM Racing) and Lorenzo Patrese (AKM Motorsport), as well as with the increasingly competitive Maya Weug, the first girl to graduate from the Ferrari Driver Academy, who is on track in the Iron Lynx single-seater. But the spotlight is also on Francesco Braschi (ITA – Jenzer Motorsport) and Pietro Armanni (ITA – Iron Lynx), two of the best drivers in the last round held before the summer break. Seeking redemption are Kirill Smal (RUS – Prema Powerteam) and Joshua Dürksen (PRY – BWT Mücke Motorsport).

 

Another driver back in the race on the Austrian track – his home circuit – is the natural heir Charlie Wurz (AUT – Prema Powerteam). In his debut at Vallelunga, the Austrian immediately amazed with 4th place overall and victory among the rookies in race 3. He is being called upon for confirmation at the Red Bull Ring. Again in the team from Vicenza, the very first appearance of Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the 15-year-old Mercedes Junior Driver, European Kart Champion in the OK class, and one of the most interesting prospects on the international motoring scene.

 

The weekend at the Red Bull Ring will kick off on Friday at 8:30 am with the first practice rounds, followed at 1:04 pm by the second session. On Saturday, September 11th at 8:30 am, the two qualifiers to decide the starting grid for Race 1, scheduled for 11:45 am. The 2 races on Sunday, September 12th at 11:25 am and 5:15 pm will end the third-before-last round of the Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth.
