Amsterdam, 18. Oktober 2021 − Stellantis N.V. (NYSE / MTA / Euronext Paris: STLA) und LG Energy Solution haben heute bekanntgegeben, dass sie eine Absichtserklärung zur Gründung eines Joint Ventures zur Produktion von Batteriezellen und -modulen für Nordamerika unterzeichnet haben.

Die Parteien beabsichtigen, im Rahmen des Joint Ventures eine neue Batterieproduktionsanlage zu errichten. Diese wird dazu beitragen, das Ziel von Stellantis zu erreichen, bis 2030 mehr als 40% seines Absatzes in den USA mit elektrifizierten Fahrzeugen zu erzielen. Das Werk soll im ersten Quartal 2024 in Betrieb genommen werden und eine jährliche Produktionskapazität von 40 Gigawattstunden aufweisen.

Die in der neuen Anlage produzierten Batterien werden an Stellantis-Montagewerke in den USA, Kanada und Mexiko geliefert und dort in Elektrofahrzeuge der nächsten Generation eingebaut. Dazu gehören sowohl Plug-in-Hybride als auch rein batterie-elektrische Fahrzeuge der Stellantis-Marken.

„Die heutige Ankündigung ist ein weiterer Beweis dafür, dass wir unseren ehrgeizigen Elektrifizierungsfahrplan umsetzen und die Zusagen einhalten, die wir im Rahmen unseres EV Day im Juli gegeben haben“, sagte Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. „Damit haben wir nun die nächste ‚Gigafactory‘ für das Stellantis-Portfolio bestimmt, die uns dabei helfen wird, bis 2030 eine Gesamtkapazität von mindestens 260 Gigawattstunden zu erreichen. Ich möchte allen, die an diesem strategischen Projekt beteiligt sind, ganz herzlich danken. Gemeinsam werden wir die Branche mit einer Effizienz anführen, die ihresgleichen sucht, und elektrifizierte Fahrzeuge liefern, die Leidenschaft entfachen.“

„Die Gründung eines Joint Ventures mit Stellantis ist ein bedeutender Meilenstein in unserer langjährigen Partnerschaft“, sagte Jong-hyun Kim, Präsident und CEO von LG Energy Solution. „LGES wird sich als Anbieter von Batterielösungen für unsere potenziellen Kunden in der Region positionieren, indem wir unsere kollektiven, einzigartigen technischen Fähigkeiten und Möglichkeiten zur Massenproduktion nutzen.“

Die Partnerschaft zwischen den beiden Unternehmen im Bereich elektrifizierter Fahrzeuge geht auf das Jahr 2014 zurück, als LG Energy Solution (damals LG Chem) von Stellantis (damals Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) ausgewählt wurde, das Lithium-Ionen-Batteriesystem und die Steuerungen für den Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid zu liefern, den ersten elektrifizierten Minivan der Branche. Mit der heutigen Ankündigung wollen beide Unternehmen ihre Partnerschaft nun noch weiter festigen und die Stärken des jeweils anderen weiter nutzen.

Stellantis plant, bis zum Jahr 2025 mehr als 30 Milliarden Euro in die Elektrifizierung und Softwareentwicklung zu investieren. Gleichzeitig will das Unternehmen weiterhin 30 Prozent effizienter als die Branche sein, was die Gesamtinvestitionen und F&E-Ausgaben im Verhältnis zum Umsatz betrifft.

Der Standort der neuen Anlage wird derzeit geprüft; weitere Einzelheiten werden zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt bekannt gegeben. Der erste Spatenstich für die Fabrik wird voraussichtlich im zweiten Quartal 2022 erfolgen.

Die Transaktion steht unter dem Vorbehalt der Einigung über die endgültige Dokumentation und der üblichen Abschlussbedingungen, einschließlich der behördlichen Genehmigungen.
